Performing at St John’s Church is one of the best boy’s choirs in the world – the Solvguttene (Silver Boys), who are celebrating their 65th anniversary this year. Solvguttene knows how to excite and move its audiences with a special, silvery sound – one that is typical only of the voices of boys. The choir has performed at Europe’s most beautiful churches and concert halls, including the Rīga Dome Cathedral (the choir took part in the first International Boys Choir Festival “Rīga Dome” in 1990) and the Westminster Abbey. It has performed in the United States and the former Soviet Union, as well as during the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games at Lillehammer. The choir is conducted by Fredrik Otterstad, who has sung with the choir since the age of 8. The patron of the choir is HRH Crown Prince Hakon of Norway. The concert at St John’s will be a friendship performance involving two boys choirs – not just Solvguttene, but also the Jāzeps Mediņš School of Music Boys Choir. The singers will be accompanied by the organist Ilze Reine.
